About the Asphalt Academy

 
   

The Asphalt Academy Trust is operated on a non-profit basis with equitable grants contributed by its trustees, Sabita (Southern African Bitumen Association) and CSIR Built Environment. 
Additional income is derived from the presentation of courses, seminars, workshops and the sale of technical guidelines to support the AsAc annual business plan and budget.

Vision

The Asphalt Academy is the premier centre in southern Africa for the coordination and development of knowledge transfer programmes and skills development in bituminous product technology in pavements.

Goals

  • To promote and encourage an adequate and consistent standard of education and training at institutions of learning to meet the needs of industry;
  • To provide knowledge transfer for the ongoing development of practitioners.

Operational thrust areas

Education, Training and Development

  • Ensure that courses and curricula offered at institutions of learning are consistent and relevant to industry needs through:
  • Regular assessment of course curricula
  • Providing relevant knowledge transfer to lecturers, trainers and learners
  • Ensure that courses and post-graduate studies are properly scheduled, coordinated and aligned with relevant legislation and quality standards

Knowledge transfer to practitioners:

  • Hold seminars and workshops to disseminate best practice
  • Publish and distribute manuals
  • Manage and maintain appropriate information systems
  • Support and participate in CAPSA and RPF activities
  • Support of Sabita and CSIR courses and initiatives within South Africa and into SADC countries
